Training Brett McGuirk is a qualified specialist Anaesthetist. He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1997. Following this he worked at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne where he completed his specialist anaesthesia training and became a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2006. Brett's further training includes a fellowship in regional anaesthesia and anaesthesia for airway, neuro and trauma surgery at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada in 2005/2006, and a year as a teaching consultant anaesthetist at St Mary's Hospital London in 2006/2007. Experience On return to Australia he was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and as an honorary lecturer for the University of Melbourne. He currently practices at a number of private hospitals in Melbourne. His areas of interest include neuro, sports orthopaedic, oral and cardiac electrophysiology surgery, and particularly regional anaesthesia. Outside Interests Away from the operating theatre he enjoys running, golf, the sport of kings and time with his young family.
