Training

 

Ashu Nath is a specialist anaesthetist and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

He obtained his medical degree from The University of Melbourne in 2003, and subsequently completed his anaesthesia training in 2012 through St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, with rotations to The Royal Children’s Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Mercy Hospital for Women.

Ashu undertook two years as a clinical fellow.  Firstly at The Royal Melbourne Hospital with a focus on anaesthesia for thoracic, urological and ear, nose and throat surgery, and at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre with a focus on anaesthesia for major cancer surgery of the bowel, oesophagus, liver and prostate.  Following this, Ashu spent a year at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK, specialising in anaesthesia for cardiac and thoracic surgery.

Experience

As a specialist anaesthetist, Ashu worked as a full-time staff anaesthetist at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne for several years, and continues there as a visiting anaesthetist, training junior doctors.  He also has formal qualifications in transoesophageal echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart).

Outside interests

Away from medicine, Ashu enjoys playing golf, watching basketball and motorsport, and spending time with his young family.
